National Association of Music Merchants Foundation

The National Association of Music Merchants Foundation last week said Mesa Public Schools and Campo Verde High School in Gilbert are among the best schools for music education in the nation.

The foundation, which advocates the advancement of music education, listed only Mesa and Tucson as the best Arizona communities for music education. Among a separate list of best individual schools for music education, Campo Verde and Rover Elementary in Tempe were the only Arizona schools to qualify.

Now in its 19th year, the awards program recognizes the efforts of teachers, administrators, parents, students and community leaders for their “exceptionally high commitment and consistent access to music education.”

Foundation spokeswoman Mary Luehrsen said the designees share two common traits: “consistent funding that anchors music education as part of the core curriculum and music programs that are located in communities where music education is viewed as a jewel of the school system.”
