Gilbert’s Town Council will meet 7 p.m. today at 50 E. Civic Center Drive to debate a variety of issues, including a proposal on how to select the next presiding judge.

Judge David Phares turned in his resignation late last year, effective in June. Council members have said they want his replacement to either have a law degree or a master’s degree and experience in lower courts.

Also on the agenda are $8 million in contracts toward expanding parts of Higley, Recker and Williams Field roads that are not yet expanded between developments. The Town Council will also get an update on the start of negotiations for providing fire service to the Gilbert County Island Fire District.
