World War II veteran and longtime Arizona resident John Verschoor Jr. died Wednesday of natural causes, according to family members.
Verschoor, the father of state Senate Majority Leader Thayer Verschoor, R-Gilbert, was born March 31, 1927, in Los Angeles.
After serving in the U.S. Navy, John Verschoor tested tanks for more than 30 years at the Yuma Proving Grounds, according to family members.
He had lived in the Wellton and Yuma communities and was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Memorial services will be held in Yuma.
