Students at Gilbert High School won the Arizona Interscholastic Association’s team state chess championship earlier this month and last week seniors Nick Thompson and Fletcher Peavy won first and second place respectively in the individual state competition.
Other team members are James Moore, Grant Marstein and Marshal Meador.
The team finished second in the state competition to Tucson’s Catalina Foothills High School the three prior years.
