The Gilbert Chamber of Commerce will host a holiday event on Dec. 5 to raise $5,000 to donate to a local charitable organization.

The inaugural Gift of Giving Holiday Event and Chinese Auction, sponsored by San Tan Ford, will feature more than 100 raffle items to benefit the Gilbert Boys & Girls Club. Additional proceeds will go to the Gilbert Chamber of Commerce.

The featured activity of the event is a Chinese Auction — an expeditious auction in which bidders toss a quarter into a bucket to bid for items. The bidders then raises a numbered paddle in the air, and the numbers are then called out by the auctioneer. After a bidder’s number is called out, he or she has to lower it and are eliminated from winning. The winning bid goes to the person whose paddle was the last number called out before the gong is struck.

“This event will be less formal and more interactive than our more traditional special events,” said Kathy Tilque, President and CEO of the Gilbert Chamber of Commerce, in a press release. “It will be a fun night for the community and a great way to learn more about the Gilbert Boys & Girls Club. We have some great prizes for this event!”

The event will be held at the Val Vista Lakes Clubhouse, 1600 E. Lakeside Drive, in Gilbert from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Admission is $50 for the general public and $35 for chamber members.
