The Gilbert Police Department has arrested a male suspect who is accused of phoning in a fake bomb threat at a strip mall in Gilbert.

Spokesperson Sgt. Jesse Sanger said the department initially received a 911 call from a person alleging a bomb was planted at a mall located near Guadalupe Road and Val Vista Drive. Officers proceeded to search every store in the strip mall but did not find any explosive devices, although officers did arrest an adult male and take him into custody.

"It looks like it was a prank or a hoax," he said.

The incident did lead to the lockdown of Sonoma Ranch and Val Vista Lakes elementary schools for "precautionary reasons."
