Shea Homes and the Chandler Unified School District reached an agreement over school boundaries in the Seville community in Gilbert.

For the next five years, residents there will have “priority status” to open enroll children in Riggs Elementary School, which opens in the fall at 6930 S. Seville, southeast of Higley and Chandler Heights roads.

Some parents protested the new school’s boundaries set by the governing board because not all homes in the masterplanned community were included in them. Shea Homes, which donated the land for the school, joined the protest, as did several state lawmakers.

District spokesman Terry Locke has said the boundary decision was based on what was best for all students in the district and to provide longterm stability for the school.
