Arizona Senate Majority Leader Andy Biggs says he'll challenge Senate President Steve Pierce for the chamber's top leadership post.

The two Republicans would face off in a vote among majority Republicans elected in the Nov. 6 general election.

Biggs told the Arizona Capitol Times (http://bit.ly/OOVyki ) that it'll be a close race against Pierce but that he thinks he can win.

House and Senate caucuses generally hold their closed-door reorganization meetings within a few days after the election.

Re-elected members and newly elected ones get to vote.

Pierce is a Prescott rancher. He narrowly defeated Biggs for the Senate presidency late last year after then-President Russell Pearce was ousted from the Legislature when he lost a recall election.

Biggs is a retired lawyer who lives in Gilbert.

I think I will take Pierce over Biggs any day. Pierce seems to be level headed and somewhat moderate in his views whereas everything I have read about Biggs is that it is my way or no way. The republicans have gotten too radical for my tastes.
