Gilbert’s Cosmo Dog Park has been named best dog park in the nation in the June edition of Dog Fancy Magazine, thanks to an e-mail campaign by a Gilbert resident.
The park, named after Gilbert’s first police K-9, was chosen because of its unique fountains, including one that features a fire hydrant, plus its doggy beach, K-9 training equipment open to all pets, lights that feature paw prints and even covered patios where owners can relax.
A resident, Margaret Occhipinti, had launched the campaign.
“There’s a lot about that park that makes it special,” said assistant town manager Tami Ryall. “Looking at it, you can see the whole park is designed around dogs. There’s no mistaking that park is for dogs.”
The park opened nine months ago, and has gained a lot of attention from dog lovers who in Gilbert previously had to use a dirt fenced area of Crossroads Park as the town’s dog park.
