Volunteers at Friends for Life Animal Sanctuary are searching for the family of a stray large breed shepherd that was rescued last week wandering alone near 32nd Street and Baseline Road.

Friends for Life spokeswoman Barb Savoy said the dog is microchipped. However, the dog's owners did not send in the paperwork with contact information to the company that monitors the microchips.

The animal was microchipped by a veterinarian in the Palm Springs, Calif., area within the last two years. Friends for Life volunteers have talked with the veterinarian who microchipped the animal. However, the office did not keep records regarding which animals received a specific microchip number.

Friends for Life is asking anyone with information about the dog to call (480) 497-8296.
