Join a "sea of Santas" running during Gilbert's 12Ks of Christmas, and don't forget your pet.

In addition to awards for the fastest runners in the 12K and 6K run/walk events during the Dec. 10 event, Santa Paws has a doggie bag full of Christmas gifts to be awarded for the costumes, including cutest pet. That's right: Your best friend is welcome to come run with you at the 12Ks of Christmas.

Along with the races, there will also be a 1.2K Santa "Sled run/walk," a fun activity for families and kids. Wear Santa hats, dress up the kids as elves, put costumes on your pets, and decorate your bikes, wagons and strollers.

A portion of the proceeds from the event will benefit Maricopa County Animal Care & Control.

The fun starts with registration 8 a.m. at Freestone Park, 1045 E. Juniper Road, Gilbert.
