Banner Health has chosen a medical director for the Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center. Edgardo Rivera, who most recently was medical director of Methodist Hospital’s Breast Center in Houston, will lead the specialty medical facility when it opens in fall 2011 on the Banner Gateway Medical Center campus in Gilbert. He has also been director of medical strategy for Bristol Myers.
Rivera will direct all cancer program clinical activities and act as the lead clinical representative.
“His role is essential to the anticipated success of this collaboration between Banner and the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston,” Banner CEO Peter Fine said in a statement released Monday.
The facility is a three-story, 120,000-square-foot outpatient center housing physician clinics, medical imaging, radiation oncology, and other support services. It will also be supported by 76 beds on two floors of Banner Gateway.
