The Gilbert Unified School District governing board will change the way it votes after confusion during a meeting last month.
At issue was a vote March 22. According to the unapproved minutes, the board voted 5-0 to award a website hosting, technical support, and training contract to Schoolwires. But board members Shane Stapley and Staci Burk — both just three months into their terms— said Tuesday night that they did not vote on the matter, choosing to remain quiet as a way of abstaining from the question.
Under the new policy, announced Tuesday night by board president Lily Tram, all votes — including abstentions — will require a verbal statement from board members.
