A body found in a home in Gilbert late last week could belong to a woman who died in the home almost four years ago.
A release sent by the Gilbert Police Department states the owner of the home located along the 500 block of Leah Lane told investigators it was the corpse of her then 95-year-old mother in the house. The homeowner, 60-year-old Janet Pallone Delatorre, said her mother’s body has remained in the home since her death in September 2010, and she said she didn’t report the death out of concern she’d be charged with elderly neglect because of the house’s condition. Officers discovered the body during a welfare check for a pet bird on Sunday morning.
According to the release, the Gilbert Police is still verifying the information. If it is factual, Delatorre could face charges of failing to report the death, which is a class 2 misdemeanor.
