Gilbert’s General Plan 2011 will have its official kickoff at a meeting 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday in the council chambers at the Gilbert Municipal Center, 50 E. Civic Center Drive.

The general plan is a state-mandated land planning document that must be updated every 10 years and has ramifications for zoning, the capital improvement plan and the impact fees charged to developers and homeowners.

The members of the town’s general plan steering committee and its four subcommittees will hear presentations on the general plan update process and Gilbert’s existing plans. Residents who are not on any of the committees are also encouraged to attend.

Voters will have their say on the updated document during the November 2011 general election.

For more information about the meeting or the general plan update, visit www.ci.gilbert.az.us or call (480) 503-6700.
