Mesquite High School band director Ronald Andre has been named teacher of the week for Dec. 31 to Jan. 4 by Fulton Homes and KNIX (102.5 FM). Andre was nominated by 17-year-old Amber Manning because of the impact he has had on the marching band students at Mesquite High in the Gilbert Unified School District.
“Teacher of the week is designed to assure outstanding individuals that their efforts are appreciated,” said Doug Fulton, CEO of Fulton Homes. “Our goal is to ensure that excellent teachers stay passionate about education.”
After Andre’s band assistant and best friend, Chris Rainer, died in a car crash in October, it was hard for him and his students to stay motivated. Despite the loss, Andre has continued to support his students and lead them to many successes.
Teachers can be nominated for Fulton Homes’ Teacher of the Week via the submission of a brief form at any Fulton Homes location or online at knixcountry. com.
Winners are chosen based on their commitment to education, career achievements and impact on students’ lives. They are featured on KNIX’s morning show and receive a prize pack with $500 in cash.
Teacher of the Week runs through May 23. At the end of the academic year a teacher of the year is selected from weekly winners.
