For a some time, Gilbert has been known as a community brimming with young families. But Forbes magazine recently recognized the town for a different demographic: one of the Top 10 suburbs in the nation for retirees.

"While our average age may be in the early 30s, our community focuses on maintaining a quality of life that benefits all ages," Mayor John Lewis said in a news release.

Gilbert's Top 10 billing was based on a range of factors - low cost of living and low taxes, prime location and amenities, availability of hospitals, higher education, and a low crime rate.
