An estimated 320 seniors will receive diplomas from Higley High School this year. The students have been awarded $5.5 million in scholarships.

The Summa cum laude graduates – the top 1 percent of the Class of 2013 - are:

Spencer Brown

GPA: 4.74

College: Undecided.

Ambition: I am planning on going to college after I go on a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for two years. I’m undecided about which college but possibly may go to ASU and study to become an engineer or go into biomedical engineering.

When I’m not studying: I enjoy life. I play drums. I enjoy biking, running, hiking, walking, and anything that allows me outside and enjoy God’s creations.

Fun fact: I’m interested in photography and seeing beautiful things. In my free time, I like to come with ideas that are different. I’m a friendly high-school goer who wants to learn. I love my family. They help me to learn to love everyone.

Matthew Moronta

GPA: 4.74

College: Boston University

Ambition: I think I want to study biology for pre-medicine. I want to become a plastic surgeon.

When I’m not studying: I started an anti-bullying club. I volunteer at St. Mary’s Food Bank in Phoenix. I’m in NHS (National Honor Society).

Fun fact: I like to eat crackers with ketchup. It’s so good. It’s a Dominican treat. My parents came from there. They first lived in New York and then came here after 9/11.

Megan Jacobson

GPA: 4.73

College: University of Arizona

Ambition: I want to major in biology and eventually I want to be a veterinarian.

When I’m not studying: I like to hang out with my friends. I do a lot of sports. I love to work out. I love volleyball and I run track.

Fun fact: I don’t like chocolate. I don’t really like sweets that much, except I like cake and ice cream. I also work a lot. I like being busy.

Nicole Dutson

GPA: 4.74

College: University of Arizona

Ambition: Study pharmacy. I want to work as a pharmacist, preferably in a hospital. My best friend passed away last year of cancer and I want to work at finding a cure.

When not studying: I like to play sports – softball, volleyball – and I’ve done cheer. I’m also in National Honor Society. I play piano. I like to sing in the choir.

Fun fact: I’m obsessed with the show, “Psyche” and “Law & Order SVU.” I like to solve the crimes.
