Maricopa County Head Start is seeking volunteers to read to preschoolers as part of Jumpstart’s national Read for the Record campaign in October.

Millions of volunteers nationwide will read to Head Start classes as a celebration of literacy, promotion of early childhood education, and in hopes of setting a world record. This year, volunteers will be encouraged to read the Ladybug Girl and the Bug Squad by David Soman and Jacky Davis.

The event is 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 4 at Maricopa County Head Start, 2150-1 S. Country Club Drive, Suite 7, Mesa. Volunteer readers must be at least 16 and agree to read for 30 to 45 minutes.

If you’re interested, contact Lindsey James at (480) 464-9669, Ext. 295. Visit http://www.hsd.maricopa.gov/headstart for more information on Head Start.
