Seven students from BASIS Chandler, along with 18 from BASIS Scottsdale, competed alongside more than 70,000 students nationwide in the American Mathematics Competition for 10th graders and below.

The purpose of the competition is to “spur interest in mathematics and to develop talent through the excitement of solving challenging problems in a timed multiple-choice format,” according to The Mathematical Association of America.

BASIS Chandler students Rick Hsu, Sidharth Kulkarn, and Liam Lawson won the young student certificate of achievement award, which is presented to students in eighth grade and below who score a 90 or above on the AMC 10.
