Don Covey, Maricopa County Superintendent of Schools, has appointed Blake Sacha to fill the vacant seat on the governing board of the Gilbert Unified School District.
According to a news release, Sacha will subscribe to the oath of office in a ceremony officiated by Covey at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 26 at the Maricopa County Education Service Agency. He will be authorized to exercise his official duties immediately after taking the oath.
Covey utilized a consensus decision-making process to select Sacha for appointment, the release said. The process calls for a district with a vacant seat to assemble a three-member team, composed of the governing board president, superintendent and a teacher representative. The team reviews the applications of individuals seeking appointment, considers community input and then nominates three for appointment, providing the names to Covey in order of preference.
Sacha was Gilbert’s top nominee.
