The Kyrene Elementary School District’s search for a new superintendent took another step forward Monday when board members chose eight candidates to initially interview for the job.
The board members held a private session with the consulting firm hired to recruit applicants for about four hours Monday, sifting through 40 applications from all over the country. The new hire should have at least a master’s degree — though a doctorate is preferred — and prior experience as a superintendent or district administrator, according to the recruitment brochure. Depending on prior experience, the new superintendent will make between $125,000 and $150,000.
Eight candidates for the position were chosen for initial interviews, though identities were not released. The governing board will narrow the names down after the interviews and could release the names at a special board meeting May 25.
Board member Rae Waters said she’s pleased with the caliber of candidatesbut could not release details. “The eight we chose were the cream of the crop,” she said.
The district hopes to hire the new superintendent by the first week of June.
