1 PARENTING 101: Registration for Parent University classes is open for parents and grandparents of Mesa Unified School District students. Class topics include early childhood and teenage issues and cost $5 to $36 per person. Information: or (480) 472-7278.

2 YOUNG SCIENTISTS: Chandler’s Goodman Elementary School, 2600 W. Knox Road, will hold its annual science fair 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday in the school’s multipurpose room. The public is invited.

3 OVERCOMING OBSTACLES: Parents of students with learning disabilities can attend a free dinner and seminar to help families through difficulties associated with special needs students 6:15 to 8 p.m. Feb. 22 at Apache Junction’s Desert Shadows Middle School cafeteria, 801 E. Southern Ave. Child care will be provided. Reservations: Call (480) 982-1110, Ext. 2043, by Friday.

4 CELEBRATE: Former teachers, students and families from Mesa’s Porter Elementary School, 1350 S. Lindsay Road, are invited to the school’s 15th birthday celebration from 5 to 9 p.m. Feb. 23. RigaTony’s restaurant will cater the event. Tickets are $6 per person or $30 for families of five or more and should be purchased in advance from the school’s office. Information: (480) 472-6677.

5 LITERACY NIGHT: Families from Chandler’s Conley Elementary School will celebrate reading and literacy at Stories by Starlight 6 to 7:30 p.m. March 2, featuring a student poetry slam, wax museum and author and illustrator Brooke Bessesen.

6 BEST OF THE BANDS: The public is invited to see the Mesa Unified School District’s elementary and junior high school honor bands perform at 3 p.m. March 25 at Dobson High School, 1501 W. Guadalupe Road. Admission is free.

7 KINDERGARTEN ROUNDUP: Registration for kindergarten in the Mesa Unified School District starts March 27 and continues through the spring. Information: (480) 472-0374.
