A high-ranking administrator in the Kyrene Elementary School District and three out-of-state candidates have been named finalists in the district’s superintendent search.
The governing board pared down the pool of candidates to replace Maria Menconi, who is retiring, from eight to four Thursday afternoon in a special meeting.
Of the four selected, only one — David Schauer — is from the area. Schauer, assistant superintendent of instructional services, has been with Kyrene 10 years.
The other finalists are:
• Thomas Jandris, CEO of Progress Education Corporation in Oak Park, Ill.
•Heidi Pace, chief for administrative support services in Academy District 20 in Colorado Springs, Colo.
•Gregory Riccio, superintendent of the Eastside Union School District in Lancaster, Calif.
Board members reviewed initial interviews conducted by Cascade Consulting, the search firm hired to find the new superintendent, then announced the four chosen for community interview forums.
The public is invited to meet the candidates in two forums next week. The school board is expected to announce a new superintendent by mid-June.
