Dale Hancock, a former teacher, administrator and governing board member in the Chandler Unified School District, died Wednesday after battling an illness. He was 72.

During his tenure as coach, teacher, principal and administrator, several Chandler Unified School District programs were recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, President Ronald Reagan and the Arizona Department of Education for excellence.

The Chandler Unified School District governing board in 1998 named the gymnasium at Hamilton High School in his honor and in 2003 bestowed his name on a new elementary school in the Arden Park community.

According to Bueler Mortuary, services will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday, April 2, at Hamilton High School, 3700 S. Arizona Ave., Chandler.
