Fifty years ago, one of the largest community college districts in the country got its start.
This week, Maricopa Community Colleges kicks off a yearlong celebration of education.
It began with the formation of the district in 1962 through a public vote, though Phoenix College began in 1920. Now, there are 10 campuses -- including Mesa Community College, Chandler-Gilbert Community College and Tempe's Rio Salado College in the East Valley -- as well as a major online presence.
A new website - celebrate.maricopa.edu – shares the colleges’ history, as well as commentary from more than 300 current and former students, faculty and staff, community members and leaders who helped establish the district. The website also features a detailed timeline and lists events open to the public that are scheduled throughout the next year.

"SEPARATE BUT EQUAL".....USED TO BE THE TERM THAT SOUTHERN SEGREGATIONISTS CALLED DIVIDING UP STUDENTS ACCORDING TO RACE BUT NOW..........."SEPARATE BUT EQUAL".....IS THE MANTRA OF THE RACIAL/ETHNIC LIBERAL HIGHER-EDUCATION GROUP THAT HAS TAKEN OVER OUR TAX-FUNDED COMMUNITY COLLEGES AND STATE UNIVERSITIES. THEY HAVE GOTTEN RID OF THE ....."MELTING POT"...THAT USED TO BE THE AMERICAN MOTTO AND REPLACED IT WITH........."SEPARATISM".

Leon, you can't even hold a logical or a rational thought or at least you can't seem to be able to express it in a clear and concise manner. If there were a standard for this media space which required some minimum level of veracity and logic, your emotional little (bigoted) rants would never see the light of day on this media site.
