Gilbert Unified School District is seeking as much as $2 million in a lawsuit against a company it hired several years ago to create student information software.
According to the lawsuit, filed Wednesday in Maricopa County Superior Court, the district alleges Alabama-based CrossPointe LLC did not deliver a software program as it was outlined in the contract signed in 2008. The lawsuit alleges the software program CrossPointe created did not meet the requirements listed in the formal request for proposal or the contract.
CrossPointe CEO Joan Keebler denied the claims during a phone interview with the Tribune. While she has not seen the lawsuit, she said "Our record keeping will show we totally complied with the contract." When the district listed problems with the software, she said she addressed each one and also provided 24/7 access to employees to provide help.
Assistant superintendent Clyde Dangerfield said, among other issues, the software never sent student information to the state Department of Education as it was required to.
Last spring, the district hired a new company to create new software, which was launched earlier this month.
The district is seeking the $1.6 million it paid CrossPointe for software, plus attorney fees.
