The Mesa Unified School District governing board approved the 2012-2013 proposed budget this week.
The $563,410,419 budget is $21.8 million less than the final revised budget for 2011-12, according to the district. The decreases can be attributed to a loss in funding from the state, a loss in grant funds, and a decrease in funding because of a small drop in enrollment.
The budget includes the previously approved 2.2 percent salary increase for certified staff, which includes teachers, and a 2 percent salary increase for support staff.
Over the last six years, the district has made nearly $100 million in maintenance and operations budget reductions due to declining enrollment and state funds, the governing board was told Tuesday.
Between Tuesday’s approval of the proposed budget and the final adoption vote, scheduled for July 10, the district may modify or decrease the budget. In addition, the district can revise the adopted budget any time before May 15, 2013.
