Caroline Chilton was named Tuesday as the principal of Neely Traditional Academy for the remainder of the school year.

Chilton will take over after current principal Gayle Blanchard leaves the Gilbert Unified School District Oct. 10 to be the new human resources director for the J.O. Combs Unified School District in the Queen Creek area.

Blanchard, a 23-year district employee, was one of four candidates vying for the superintendent job last year.

Chilton has been with the district for 17 years. She started in the district as a sixth-grade teacher at Burk Elementary School. The last four years she has been at the district office as the director of assessment and evaluation.

Chilton said she is excited to work back at a school and said her main goal is to maintain the school's high standards.
