The Gilbert Unified School District governing board approved the hiring Tuesday night of a consultant firm to help conduct its search for a new superintendent.
By a vote of 4-0, with one board member absent, Ray and Associates was hired for $33,700.
The district has already conducted several public forums to gather community input on the qualities of a superintendent sought for the district.
Current superintendent, Dave Allison, announced his plans to retire in January. His contract ends June 30.
The district has received feedback from 85 community members on the qualities it seeks, including strong leadership, communication skills and education background.
