Mesa city leaders agreed Thursday to begin negotiations with Mesa Community College for 9 acres of prime real estate in downtown for a future campus.
The city will hand over the remaining 16 acres of the parcel to a broker, with an eye toward luring a master developer for a mixed-use site that could complement the campus.
Councilman Scott Somers said the city wants to “see something really urban,” next to the campus at Mesa and University drives.
MCC officials said the campus could host a myriad of programs, including media arts, fire service and interior design.
Northern Arizona University and the Mesa public schools are both partners in the venture for the campus.
