Students from Mesa's Dobson High School pledged to "X the TXT," a campaign to encourage students to not text while driving. Allstate exclusive agent Joe West and Health World partnered for the event on Nov. 22. Students were able to take the pledge, while being informed of the dangers of using a cell phone while driving.
According to a recent Allstate Foundation study, 49 percent of teens admit to being extremely distracted by texting and instant messaging while driving. However, 82 percent of teens say they still use their cell phone behind the wheel. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports driver distraction contributes to 25 percent of all police-reported traffic crashes.
