Arizona is about to receive millions in federal funds.
U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan announced Monday that Arizona will receive nearly $212 million aimed at keeping thousands of teachers in the classroom this school year.
The $10 billion federal education fund will support education jobs in the 2010-2011 school year and be distributed to states by a formula based on population figures.
Over the last two years, the Department of Education has been able to support 300,000 education jobs through stimulus funding provided by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

We definitely need to throw more money at the teachers in Mesa, especially since enrollment is down by 2,400 students.

I agree with TruthSeeker's tongue-in-cheek comment.
With this "free money" I certainly hope some of it goes toward some checks & balances that weed out "kid magnets" so that down the road we taxpayers are NOT reading more and more about teachers from this program "doing" the kids.they sign up to teach. Let's get the added funds to the teachers that really want to teach...not those just signing up for a paycheck during a down economy..
Lets spend a little money making certain the teachers are qualified for the jobs they get (i.e., speak clear English if teaching English; can add/subtract/divide without use of a calculator; can read a book, rather than report on the movie; hire those teachers that can teach the AZ-approved classes, rather than something of their own agenda).
