Why isn't there the same level of Patriotism, love of our Miltary Men and Women in the Mesa School District? They have bigger celebrations for Cinco de Mayo Day. Could it be because of the differences in demographics or is it something less cerebral and movre visceral ???

I really don't believe it's the demographics in Mesa. In fact, I would be willing to bet that there are more veterans in Mesa than any other part of the valley. I believe it is the passion of a few in the Higley School District that wanted to teach their students the importance of knowing where their freedoms have come from and to teach them respect. They started this 5 years ago and it has turned in to an absolute spectacular event. From the planes that flew overhead, to the parachuters jumping out of the planes, the motorcycle parade, the canons, the phenomenal music and the heart felt speeches delivered by students and veterans themselves, and the participation of so many students, we were all blown away. If only every man, woman and child in the United States could have witnessed this celebration of Freedom, I believe the attitude of this generation could change. I was touched in a way I never before have been. Hats off to Higley United School District and its students! - and great job on the article Mike Sakal.
