The Gilbert Unified School District governing board voted 3-2 vote not to award Superintendent Dave Allison performance pay for the last two months.
Based on new state law, and Gilbert’s approved policy, the superintendent is to be evaluated every two months. The state law requires 20 percent of his salary -- or about $32,000 –- to be based on performance. Allison’s current annual salary is $155,000. With each of the six evaluations, Allison would be awarded more than $5,000.
This is the first time since the policy was put in place in 2010 that Allison did not receive a satisfactory review. The next review will be in January.
The review was performed in a closed-door, executive session following Tuesday night’s regular board meeting.

That's a start. Three members of the five member Gilbert School Board know to demand good results from the district's administration.
Time and again I read blogs, readers comments and such about how poor education is in Arizona. Time and again there are special elections for school districts to issue additional bonds, override school district budget caps and now Prop 204 and the MED Tec item on the General Election Ballot. Now if school districts governing boards in Phoenix find out what criteria the Gilbert Unified School District is employing and do likewise the children will get the education they deserve. In short, it is high time to quit throwing money at poor to failing school districts just to end up in financing district administration.

Mr. Allison: You have to realize that the public is talking with these school board members. We tell them that we expect more from them, more from the district people and more from the staff at the schools. We expect to see our tax money used with wisdom. You are asking us to continue to pay a tax and then see such waste in the school system. Then you come to us (via our elected school board members) with your hand out asking for money? I am sorry sir, but you are going to have to work a little harder and loose some of that superior attitude you carry. We know that you have talent and skills and can run a lean school district. It seems that some of that power has gone to your head and some of those you work with.
School board members: I am proud to see that three of you are getting it. I hope this is not just because of the election season. You have asked us to elect you to this board based on promises to run a great district with physical responsibility. This is what we expect to see. Sometimes it has to hurt a little bit. Mr. Allison will get the message. It is not meant to punish him, it is to remind him of his duties. Thank you. You other two members: Vote with your hearts not with the peer/political pressure that you feel. DO THE RIGHT THING!
