The Arizona Department of Education honored 18 districts and charter schools this week during its Leading Change Conference in Tucson.
Several East Valley schools were among those honored for student academic achievement with a 2011 Excellence Award.
Chandler Unified School District and Tempe Preparatory Academy, a charter school, were honored for reading achievement. Kyrene Elementary School District; Mesa Arts Academy, a charter school; and Tempe Union High School District were honored for math achievement. Mesa’s Self-Development Charter School, Chandler Preparatory Academy and Chandler’s Bright Beginnings School were honored for academic excellence in the charter school category.
