1 CELEBRATE: Former teachers, students and families from Mesa’s Porter Elementary School, 1350 S. Lindsay Road, are invited to the school’s 15th birthday celebration 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday. RigaTony’s restaurant will cater the event. Tickets are $6 per person or $30 for families of five or more, and should be purchased from the school’s office. Information: (480) 472-6677.

2 AIMS WORKSHOP: Parents can learn how essays are evaluated on Arizona’s Instrument to Measure Standards test and how to help their child expand his or her writing skills, 6 to 7 p.m. Feb. 27 at Gilbert’s GPS Traditional Academy, Neely Campus, 321 W. Juniper. Information: (480) 892-2805.

3 LITERACY NIGHT: Families from Chandler’s Conley Elementary School will celebrate reading and literacy at “Stories by Starlight” 6 to 7:30 p.m. March 2, with a student poetry slam, wax museum and author and illustrator Brooke Bessesen.

4 BEST OF THE BANDS: The public is invited to see the Mesa Unified School District’s elementary and junior high school honor bands perform at 3 p.m. March 25 at Dobson High School, 1501 W. Guadalupe Road. Admission is free.

5 KINDERGARTEN ROUNDUP: Registration for kindergarten in the Mesa Unified School District starts March 27 and continues through the spring. Information: (480) 472-0374.

6 AUCTION FUNDRAISER: The Mesa Foundation for Educational Excellence hosts an auction to benefit Mesa students on April 8.
