Boundary proposals are on the table for the Chandler Unified School District’s fourth high school. The high school will be the last of its kind in the district, but the doors won’t be closed to creating a technical or other specialized high school in the future, district spokesman Terry Locke said.

Community members can learn where new attendance boundaries could soon be for Perry High School at a series of public meetings this week. Three proposals have been drawn up for review, though school officials already favor one plan.

Plan A, which mostly takes students from Basha High School’s current boundaries, makes the most sense to school officials so far, Locke said. That plan “is what we were pretty much anticipating when we drew up the boundaries for Basha,” he said.

The school’s attendance area would roughly be bound by McQueen Road to the east, Chandler Heights Road to the south and Greenfield Road to the west, if Plan A were to pass next month when the board is expected to vote.

By the time Chandler reaches buildout in 2010, Locke said, the boundaries would allot about 3,000 students per high school.

Perry High School, slated to open for the 2007-08 school year, is under construction in Gilbert on Queen Creek Road just east of Val Vista Drive. The $42 million project will be similar to the district’s newest high school, Basha High School, which opened in 2002.
