Students impacted by the police situtation at Chandler Fashion Center were being released after their school was put on lockdown for about 2 1/2 hours Wednesday.

Automatic phone calls were made to parents just after 3 p.m. informing them police have determined the area to be safe and students were being released.

The 400 students and 48 staff at Kyrene del Sureno Elementary School were placed on lockdown about 12:50 p.m. Another 60 students from Aprende Middle School who would normally be bussed into the neighborhood by the mall were kept at their school and supervised by staff.

All students were released to their bus routes or parent pick-up areas.
