Mesa's David Chou, 18, will perform as a solo pianist with the Interlochen Philharmonic after being named one of two winners of the annual Concerto Competition at Interlochen Center for the Arts in Michigan

Chou, son of Tzu-Tai and Chin-Chen Chou, gave his recital performance of Piano Concerto in A Minor by Edvard Grieg with the Interlochen Philharmonic on July 23.

A 2011 graduate of Dobson High School, Chou was a member of Dobson's orchestra and received private instruction from piano teacher Fei Xu. He will attend Duke University in the fall to study physics and neuroscience.

According to a news release, the Interlochen Concerto Competition is offered every summer to intermediate and high school divisions of band, orchestra, piano and voice students who attend the six-week program.
