Pencils and glue sticks and paper, oh my!
Two different shopping trips, six bags of supplies, and $100 later – eek! – and my big kids have everything on their teachers’ lists for back-to-school.
“New Crayons for me? Scissors?” I heard a friend’s soon-to-be kindergartner squeal when receiving his new supplies after a trip to the store. “I got markers!”
I think there’s a bit of excitement in the air.
We got haircuts done this weekend. New shoes were purchased last week. I have their school calendar taped to my kitchen cabinet, and the kids happily share the names of their teachers with anyone who will listen.
After feeling nervous, and somewhat frantic, about getting all the back-to-school stuff done, I’m more at ease. I still have to work on their weekly calendars – as tempting as it is to start chess and Scouts and sports, I’m going to see how the first few weeks of school goes. I may have overdone it last year.
And, once classes actually begin, I may be the one more nervous than they are to see how the new school year – and new school – will go.
School transitions into Arizona College Prep, Erie Campus
In other School Notes, Erie Elementary School’s transition into Arizona College Prep, Erie Campus, is complete. The Chandler Unified School District will open the campus this week to anyone who wants to see the school at 1150 W. Erie St., and learn about the program before classes begin on Monday.
So from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, the public can stop by for a tour of the renovated campus that now has science labs and athletic facilities. Arizona College Prep was formerly known as Hamilton Prep. The popular program grew out of its rented space in a church so the district found it a new home and changed the name. Seventh through 12th graders will open Arizona College Prep, Erie Campus while Arizona College Prep, Oakland Campus (formerly Chandler Traditional Junior High School) will house sixth through eighth grades. In the future, the Erie campus will house ninth through 12th grades while the Oakland campus will house just seventh and eighth grades.
We’re going back to school too!
Just as children are gathering their supplies and schools are preparing to open, we’ve been gathering information that might be helpful to parents as school starts. On Sunday, the East Valley Tribune’s Back to School Guide will be published. Stories from the section – and more – will appear on our redesigned education page at evtrib.com. Hope you have a few moments Sunday to check it out, or hold onto the print edition for future referral.
