The Excellence in Mathematics High School competition at Chandler-Gilbert Community College will host more than 200 competing East Valley ninth- to 12th-graders from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Nov. 4.

“It is the hope of the CGCC Mathematics Division to not only help students improve their mathematical skills but also their attitudes toward math,” said Linda Meng, CGCC Mathematics faculty member and contest coordinator.

The Excellence in Mathematics Competition was created by the CGCC Mathematics Division and sponsored by CenturyLink with the intent of motivating and encouraging today’s youth to be successful in mathematics.

The competition consists of individual and team projects. The individual competition consists of multiple choice questions. For the team project, teams are given a real-world situation to analyze.

For more information or to register to participate, call (480) 857-5531 or access www.cgc.edu/math
