Nine fifth- and sixth-grade students from St. John Bosco Catholic School aren't just bookworms. They're champion bookworms after the Ahwatukee Foothills school claimed victory in the 2011 Battle of the Books Regional Championship.

Each team of three students competes at the school level reading four assigned books three times during the year. Then during the final competitions, the teams are asked detailed questions about all 12 books.

The first-place St. John Bosco team included Stephanie Burckhard, Claire Rafford and Teagan Scott. Second place went to Neely Traditional from Gilbert, while the Basha Elementary team from Chandler took third.
