Parents in the Kyrene Elementary School District can meet new governing board member Ross Robb during a regular meeting Tuesday night.

But they should not expect immediate answers about where he stands on arts education and a 3-2 vote this spring that has spurred a recall campaign against Kyrene board president Rae Waters. Robb said he will need some time to gather facts and digest the issue. "You just try to listen to what people have to say, and do your best," he said.

Robb was appointed last week to replace John Doney, who cast one of three votes on March 8 for a new middle school schedule that includes less time for art, music and foreign language — and more time for reading, writing and math.

After the vote, Doney moved out of the district and resigned. Robb will assume Doney’s term that expires in January 2007.

Eight district residents applied for the vacancy with Maricopa County Superintendent of Schools Sandra Dowling, who has authority to appoint replacements.

Robb has two children at Kyrene schools.
