Students at Chandler’s Valley Christian High School have spent the last few months collecting items to give back to the community.
For one day, the students went barefoot, taking off their shoes and donating them to homeless Phoenix youth. In a partnership with the Tumbleweed Center for Youth, students, faculty and staff donated 464 pairs of shoes that went directly to homeless youth in the Phoenix-metro area, according to a news release. “To be able to help kids in our own community with a simple thing like shoes is such a powerful experience,” said junior Sam Tallet. “It’s something we don’t really think about much, but being able to help like this is awesome.”
National Honor Society students sponsored an Operation Christmas Child drive in November in conjunction with Samaritan’s Purse International. Students filled 103 shoeboxes full of school supplies, toys, hygiene items and personal notes to be given to children. A total of 103 boxes were filled to be sent out around the world for Christmas.
“It feels great to be able to provide children a gift that otherwise wouldn’t get to experience that feeling on Christmas and be able to share God’s love with them,” senior Melissa Galloway said.
And, just this past week, students and staff from Valley Christian donated dozens of toys to the Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Drive.
