An initiative aimed at educating Tucson residents on Mexican-American studies is set to begin.
The Arizona Daily Star reports (http://bit.ly/PvU2Ev) that an event known as "Tucson Freedom Summer" will start Sunday and will continue until July 22. Scholars, writers and teachers will give lectures and workshops on bilingual education, civic engagement and fundraising.
Tucson Freedom Summer effort is being driven by a coalition of local community groups and out-of-state volunteers.
The Tucson Unified School District board voted in April to dismantle its Mexican-American studies program after some state funding was to be cut off in response to conclusions by Arizona's public schools chief and a judge that the program violated the law.
Houston-based novelist Tony Diaz responded by donated thousands of Latino-themed books to the area.

Does this mean the program has been re-organized (not racially motivated), or just starting over with the same curriculum again??

Let's dissect the associated progressive(AP) story. Ah yes, call it what is is, an education workshop. Bilingual education-----ELL is a success story. Would someone please explain to me the logic of teaching in a language other than english. How is this superior to being immersed in english only? Civic engagement? Does this include marches and demonstrations headed by your local La Raza and La Mecha? Waving the mexican flag demanding rights for illegals? Fund raising. Of course we are all aware of the benevolence and the sincerity of such events.

"Latino-themed" books.......now that's a real hoot....how many of these E.S.L. (English as a Second Language.......a far, far distant second if you ask me) students can read/understand English much less "Latin". There is no such thing as a "Latino"...it's a made-up work....like widget.
"Hispanic" is another Liberal, Progressive, Socialist ...."made-up" word...."Hispania" refers to Spain and Portugal.....across the Pond, Folks. They don't even eat tacos, tostadas, enchiladas, chimi-changas or even menudo in ....Spain and Portugal.
What these activists are trying to teach our impressionable high school aged students is a.......HATE FOR AMERICA....HATE FOR CAPITALISM....HATE FOR WHITE ANGLO SOCIETY.
