The Justice Department has filed a lawsuit against the Maricopa County Community College District alleging it engaged in a pattern or practice of discrimination in hiring authorized non-citizens.

The Justice Department says its investigation revealed that Maricopa Community Colleges required all newly hired non-citizens to present additional work authorization documents beyond those required by law, but did not require U.S. citizens to do so.

The Immigration and Nationality Act requires employers to treat authorized workers in the same manner during the hiring process, regardless of their citizenship status.

District spokesman Tom Gariepy says the district has no comment because the matter is in litigation

Dear headline writer, it's community college not junior college.

Until recently, I thought Arizona had risen above its discriminatory practices. Here it looks like it's still going on in yet another public domain, our Maricopa County community colleges.

Since the mid or late 1960's Arizona, along with states in the deep south and Alaska, as well as a few isolated counties and municipalities in a couple other states, has been required to abide by Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act and has had to get a pre-clearance from the U.S. Justice Dept. for each of its elections due to its previous history of discriminatory practices pertaining to voting and elections. Those states are:

    Alabama
    Alaska
    Arizona
    Georgia
    Louisiana
    Mississippi
    South Carolina
    Texas
Virginia, except for eleven counties (Augusta, Botetourt, Essex, Frederick, Greene, Middlesex, Pulaski, Roanoke, Rockingham, Shenandoah, and Warren) and four independent cities (Fairfax, Harrisonburg, Salem, and Winchester).

Makes you wonder if we're ever going to get out from under this self-imposed cloud.

I'm hard pressed to identify any aspect of the Maricopa County Community College District that isn't embroiled in corruption and mismanagement.

What a disservice to the students.

If you folks have a problem with Maricopa County or Arizona, please feel free to emigrate. Now, for my take, this is just more of the slanted DOJ mode of operations. November cannot come soon enough so we can get a balance of power restored.

"present additional work authorization documents beyond those required by law" -- What/which ones were requested?

Interesting how "Innocent until proven guilty DOESN'T seem to work both ways for those that support ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION....

This country is losing it's collective mind! Until I became a citizen, I had to show my green card; what's the big deal? What is the green card for, if not to prove your right to be here and to work? But then again, that was many years ago, when the leaders of this country still had something of a brain!

Discrimination AGAINST hiring non-citizens? Wow! That is different! There is a whole lot of discrimination in America IN FAVOR of non-citizens. Good ol' Bill Gates shamelessly asks for more and more work visas for foreign engineers every year because they will accept lower salaries. The Chamber of Commerce also lobbys for open borders. But, if you are an American citizen, who's looking out for you?
