New computers are on the way to schools throughout the Chandler Unified School District. The district’s governing board recently approved purchasing 1,000 new computers to replace aging models.

It’s expected to cost the district more than $1 million for the computers, 15-inch flat screen monitors and flat speaker bars.

Replacement was needed since the majority of the machines were obsolete, district officials said.

“It will help tremendously with the programs we can run and (the computers) will run faster,” said Barbara Schneider, a media specialist at Knox Elementary School.

Elementary schools will likely be the last to receive the new computers with high schools being the priority, said Frank Fletcher, associate superintendent for support services.
