For the sixth consecutive year, students from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University outperformed all other schools in the Society of Professional Journalists’ Mark of Excellence national awards competition.
The Arizona State University students won a total of five awards: four first-place awards and one national finalist award. “Cronkite NewsWatch,” the school’s 30-minute nightly newscast that airs across the state on Arizona PBS, was named the nation’s best collegiate newscast.
In addition to being named the best collegiate newscast, NewsWatch was honored for best TV breaking news and best staff. The TV news photography award went to David Gonzalez and the TV feature photography award went to Natalie Podgorski. Grant Martin was a national finalist for feature writing.
