Recent Skyline High School graduate Sophia Ottleben of Mesa was awarded a $100,000 scholarship last week during a celebration at the Ronald McDonald House Charities July board meeting.

Ottleben is the oldest of eight children and will begin her quest toward becoming a prosthesis surgeon when she begins college this fall at Johns Hopkins University majoring in biomedical engineering. Sophia was one of four students selected this year to receive the award.

The Ronald McDonald House Charities/HACER Scholarship Program was established in 1985 to help Hispanic high school students finance their college education. To date, the program has provided more than $21 million in scholarships for Latino students.
